What Spring's pine canopy does to a duct system
Why does the yellow film come back days after a cleaning? This is North Harris County in the Piney Woods transition. Loblolly pine drops heavy pollen each spring. Needles and bark fall year-round. They pile on condenser coils and drift toward attic intakes. If your return has gaps, that debris rides straight into the system. Cleaning the ducts does not stop it. Sealing the return side does.
Most Spring houses went up in the 1980s through the 2000s. Two-story, flex duct run through an unconditioned attic. Flex sags between straps, and the low spots trap dust. Second-floor runs are the longest and the dirtiest. Older pockets nearer Old Town Spring use sheet metal and duct board instead. Duct board edges erode over decades and shed fiber into the airstream.
Wooded lots bring squirrels onto rooflines and into gable vents. Once in the attic, they chew flex duct jacket and nest in the insulation. Signs to watch for: odor in one room only, gray streaks at a register, insulation flecks on furniture.
If a run's inner liner is torn, cleaning it does nothing. That section needs replacing. We say so instead of vacuuming a broken duct.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yellow pine pollen coats everything here in spring. Does that actually get into the ducts?
Some of it does. Loblolly pollen is fine enough to ride in through return air, around filter edges, and through any gap in attic ductwork. The heavier needle and bark litter tends to pile up around the outdoor unit and near attic intakes. On a well-sealed system with a decent filter changed on time, most of it stays in the filter. On a system with leaky flex connections in a hot attic, which describes a lot of the 1980s–2000s houses in Spring, the pollen and fine dust bypass the filter and settle in the duct runs. If you're seeing a yellow film come back a day after you dust, that's worth a look inside the ducts.
We heard something in the attic and now there's a smell from the vents. What's going on?
That combination is one of the most common calls we get in Spring. Wooded lots plus attic-heavy construction means squirrels and rats get into attics regularly, and flex duct is easy for them to chew through or nest against. What you're smelling is usually droppings, urine-soaked insulation, or in some cases a dead animal inside or beside a duct run. Cleaning alone doesn't fix this. Damaged flex has to be replaced, and the entry point has to be closed off, or it happens again next season. We'll tell you plainly what we find in the attic before anyone starts cleaning.
How fast can someone get out to my house?
Most of Spring we can reach within a day or two for a standard cleaning. If you've got an active animal problem, a smell coming through the registers, or someone in the house reacting to it, say so when you call and we'll move you up. Traffic along the I-45 and Grand Parkway corridors is the main thing that affects our arrival windows, so we give a window rather than a single time and call ahead when we're on the way.
Can you do it same day?
Sometimes, depending on the day and where you are in the Spring area. A two-story with two systems and a lot of runs takes most of a workday, so same-day usually means we had a cancellation or you called early. If we can't get you same day, we'll say so instead of booking you and pushing it. Small single-system jobs are the easiest to fit in.
